Today I attended my first workshop for the Metropolitan Council 4-H Climate Action Project.

We started by learning about climate planning and looking at data showing how Minnesota’s climate could change in the future, from more days above 90°F to changes in snowfall. One activity challenged us to look beyond the numbers and think about the stories and people behind climate data.

We also explored different climate actions related to energy, transportation, food, nature, and other parts of everyday life. What stood out to me was that an action that sounds good on paper may not work equally well for every person or community.

For the next part of the project, each of us will interview community members about which climate actions they think would work best and what concerns or barriers they have. We’ll bring those perspectives back to the group and help identify common priorities across the Twin Cities.

I’m excited to hear what people in my community think and to learn more about how community voices can help shape climate action.
