Earth Week 2026 marked another exciting milestone for Earth on Us as our Recycle Right curriculum reached students at Blind Brook-Rye Middle School in Rye Brook, New York. Led by student organizer Grace Z., the Earth Week activities demonstrated how youth leadership can inspire sustainable choices while adapting creatively to reduce environmental impact.

Earlier this spring, Earth on Us provided demonstration copies of the Recycle Right board game to Grace, who was serving as a lead organizer for her school’s Earth Week celebration from April 22–26. The original plan was to pilot the physical board game as part of the week’s educational activities, giving students a fun and interactive way to learn proper recycling practices.

As planning progressed, however, Grace recognized an opportunity to make the event even more environmentally friendly. Rather than printing additional paper materials for a large-scale board game activity, she decided to transition the program to an electronic game format. This thoughtful change reduced paper use while still engaging students in learning how to recycle correctly.

Grace’s decision reflected an important lesson at the heart of Earth on Us: environmental education is not only about learning sustainable practices, but also about putting those values into action. By carefully considering the environmental footprint of the event itself, she demonstrated how small decisions can make a meaningful difference.

We are incredibly grateful for Grace’s leadership, initiative, and creativity in bringing Earth on Us to Blind Brook-Rye Middle School. Her work shows the power of student leaders to adapt, innovate, and inspire their peers while promoting environmental stewardship.
